Griffith citizen journalists make a difference

In Online News Production students start their own blog on WordPress about a topic that makes a difference and benefits people who need it.

This the class at Griffith began with a focus on community engagement – in traditional face to face ways but also in more technical ways of engaging with groups and individuals in their respective communities online.

The aim was to make students perceptions of interactivity shift from their previous passive idea where readers could interact with their news blog, to a much more active engagement where students create a Facebook page attached to their news blog and actively seek other like minded pages and get involved in discussions.

By liking FB pages that are relevant to the respective issues, and sharing content in strategic ways students receive feeds of information that could be researched for potential stories and share it forward.

Students work alone or in pairs or groups.
