2013 horn trade takes 946 SA rhinos

According to the International Antipoaching Foundation:

  • 946 rhino were hunted and killed for their horn in South Africa in 2013
  • Current poaching in South Africa is 2-3 per day
  • 2014 could be the tipping point for rhino where poaching deaths outpace birth
  • South Africa holds 83 percent of Africa’s rhino and 73 percent of the world’s rhino
  • Rhino poaching deaths in South Africa are up from 668 last year, and just 22 a decade ago
