Uong ca phe, Pham Ngu Lao

January 12, 2013

It’s been 18 months since I left Sai Gon and I have got some expectations of how it should feel to be back.

My memories seem more saturated, and at same time more washed out. I also have fears about progress and change, a kind of cynical defeatism that the culture will have been eroded.

This morning I haven’t wandered far to find familiar signs of the Sai Gon that I love. Ba, who joined me while I drank three ca phe sua nongs, is 98.

I love this one, Mic. Feeling of history meeting energy. I hope you are enjoying being back… Looking forward to more pics and texts.
