Former Qld minister Judy Spence opposes cruise ship terminal

The proposed cruise ship terminal and associated sand dredging at the Southport Broadwater would spoil habitat for 150 species of fish, sharks and rays, says former Beattie Government minister Judy Spence.

Ms Spence, who dives regularly at the Broadwater, also fears a cruise ship terminal could only be made viable by a massive hotel complex of a scale not yet seen in Australia at the Broadwater or Wavebreak Island.

“I opposed it when the Beattie Government proposed it in 2006. I think it was wrong then, I think it’s wrong now,”  says Ms Spence.

I am speaking in this video to Judy Spence at the one day Community Information Session at Southport Yacht Club, Thursday 13 December.

The community consultation survey closes Friday 21 December 2012.

“The Queensland Government, in conjunction with Gold Coast City Council, is seeking Expressions of Interest from
local, national and international consortia to create a new integrated tourism development in the Broadwater,” the project website says.
