Ho Chi Minh City RMIT graduate Trieu Dinh Nam has come up with a stylish way to promote his favourite sport.

Nam and his team mates from Saigon Ultimate and RMIT Ultimate clubs have produced a new Youtube clip based on South Korean superstar Psy’s Youtube clip, Gangnam Style.

“Two months ago, I came up with the idea to create a media group for the Ultimate Club, making campaigns to promote the Ultimate Sport to the community,” Nam says.

His idea coincided with the end of the final university examinations and a lot of RMIT Ultimate Club members wanted to get involved in the media group.

“When we saw Gangnam Style, we saw there is not much different between PSY’s style and Ultimate Style.”

The team decided to go with the idea then took a week to rehearse the dance scenes.

“We tried to think of new ideas to make the clip differently. The creative work was open for everyone.”

Nguyen Quoc Thang, who is one of the team in the clip, says there are a lot of groups making Gangnam Style clips in Vietnam, but the Ultimate club wanted to make their clip different by using it to promote their club and team.

Nam filmed it in one day with a Canon 60D, edited it on Adobe Premier, and uploaded the clip on Youtube.

He has promoted it on Facebook and after a few day it got over 6000 hits.

“I think this clip will attract more players to Ultimate Vietnam. I saw some comments from RMIT students on Facebook that they really want to joined the club after watching this video, and there were many good feedbacks from non-students also,” Nam says.

“Saigon Ultimate Club (SUC)  is a group of mostly young people, we love hanging out and doing crazy things, and I think what makes him so popular is his style: very funny, open, freestyle, connecting people from every age. I think that’s why we like Gangnam Style,” the Ultimate Frisbee player says.
